New Covenant Academy

30 students from New Covenant Academy, a private Christian school in Springfield, Missouri, volunteered at the Compassionate Alliance warehouse in Nixa, Missouri. The students used their time assembling Disaster Buckets for a community service project. The help was tremendous! They were able to produce approximately 200 complete buckets. The supplies were donated from area individuals close to our location. The few hours they donated and the generosity of the community will help many families in their time of need. Thanks New Covenant Academy!

Handfuls of Hope

In the recent weeks many of us have seen the effects of mother-nature at her worst. These images affect us in many different ways and on many different levels. These feelings are no different for the 8th grade Mass Media class at Crane Middle School in Crane, MO. After seeing the effects of Hurricane Katrina on the people of the Gulf Coast these middle school students wanted to do something to help. Therefore, the idea of Handfuls of Hope was launched.

Handfuls of Hope is the fundraiser started by the 8th grade Mass Media class. The students placed donation cans in each of the middle school classroom to collect money for hurricane relief. Money was collected for two weeks and the class who donated the most money received a pizza party. There was a close competition between two fifth grade classrooms but Mrs. Sample’s class squeaked by to become the winner. Mrs. Phillip’s students came in a close second. Through many donations the students raised over $350 from the fundraiser.

The students also decided to hold a bake sale in September during the first home game of the middle school basketball season. Many people donated cookies, cakes, and pies. (A special thank you goes out to the Crane R-III cooks who donated cookies for the event!) Through the generosity of these donations the bake sale raised over $75. Together the bake sale and donations raised over $400 dollars for the hurricane victims. Thank you very much to everyone who donated money and bake sale items. As Aesop states “No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.”

Compassionate Alliance sends food, medicine, clothing and disaster supplies all over the world, including the Gulf of Mexico, Honduras, Sri Lanka, East Timor, Pakistan and other locations. So far in 2005, how many pounds of supplies do you think Compassionate Alliance has shipped?
One of the opportunites Compassionate Alliance now has is to help the newest nation on earth. Which nation is this?

Letters to Churches

Another young partner from California helped tell churches about Compassionate Alliance.

She wrote 12 letters to different churches in Southern California as part of a school project. These letters introduced the ministry of Compassionate Alliance to many people and showed them how they can help feed orphans in Honduras, provide diaster relief for those affected by the hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, send supplies to Pakistan, and help the needy in the newest nation on earth.

Katrina Slippers

One of our young partners from California had a great idea on how to raise money for the people affected by hurricane Katrina.

She enlisted the help of her Mom and together they made flip-flops from thin pieces of material. She glued a magnet on the sole so it could be attached to the refrigerator as a reminder of those impacted by the hurricane.

After selling the flip-flops for $1 each, she was able to help the Katrina victims by sending the money from the sales to Compassionate Alliance where it was used for relief supplies.

How smart is your right foot? Try this! While sitting down, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with it. Now while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Can you keep your foot from changing directon?
